Hey all. Kori here! As much as I love talking about business and food and ‘Chups all the time, I figured it’d be fun to throw in some other life posts now and then. If you decide to read this, you’ll be rewarded with a good laugh toward the end …
After about a half dozen mostly unfulfilling work years post-college (aside from working with a lot of really awesome people), I decided it was time to take control of my own professional fate. While it would be nice to put all of my eggs in the ‘Chups basket, practicality isn’t a bad thing either. So, I thought about what aspects of my past jobs had excited me the most as well as what I loved on a personal level.
The answer was an obvious one: creativity. Whether it was writing, painting, drawing or even seeing the ‘Chups packaging come together … all those activities, when I was engaged in them, were the things that made me the happiest.
Applying these types of activities to my experience in the tech world, I decided I wanted to pursue a career in graphic design. And that is just what I’m doing! After a lot of mulling and seeking support from loved ones, I signed up to get my Advanced Certificate in Graphic Design via Sessions Online School of Professional Design with two concentrations: Web Design and Brand Identity.
I just started my first course, Photoshop Basics, and even turned in my very first “exercise” — essentially homework. I don’t think I have ever been so enthusiastic to do an assignment! The exercise was to insert yourself into a famous photograph or any photograph containing famous people. Anyone who knows me will not be shocked with my choice …
Hahahahahaha. OK, so it’s definitely not perfect, but for my first ever attempt in wrangling Photoshop, not a terrible go, right? I had a very difficult time finding a photo of me being serious and short of taking a whole new picture, I found something I thought would work. Though, seems as if I made Hermione evil in the process … I mean, I was just so excited to BE her! 😉
After I post this, I’m getting ready to tackle my second assignment, which coincidentally enough is to create a movie poster from a list of fake movies provided for us. It’s not going to be easy, but you can bet I’m looking forward to the challenge and that is one of the most refreshing feelings in the world.
If you take one thing from this post, aside from a good chuckle, it’s that you really are the keeper of your own happiness and fulfillment in life. Don’t be afraid to shake things up and take a new path. It might sound trite and tired, but it’s not. It’s TRUE. So, go do it … whatever your IT may be.
